Electrocentrale Bucharest, in partnership with Norsk Energi from Norway and Audit IT&C SRL from Romania, is exploring opportunities to integrate sustainable technologies into the Bucharest district heating system, with the aim of increasing energy efficiency and sustainable development.
The three entities are jointly developing an ambitious project funded by Innovation Norway on "Feasibility study for the integration of solar and wind energy in district heating systems with advanced heat storage solutions".
In November 2024, ELCEN representatives together with the two project partners, Norsk Energi and Audit IT&C, carried out working visits to CET Bucharest South, CET Bucharest West, CET Bucharest West, CET North Brasov Industrial Platform and the promoter's headquarters in Romania where training sessions and workshops were held for a valuable exchange of ideas and the opportunity to share visions and best practices necessary to improve the skills and knowledge of the teams in developing the feasibility study.
In January 2025, a delegation from ELCEN was on a working visit to Norway within the framework of the above-mentioned Project, participating in training and exchange of experience with leading Norwegian companies in the district heating sector.
The ELCEN delegation was welcomed by Sergei Faschevsky, Head of International Operations and Senior Advisor of Norsk Energi's Building Energy Systems Department, and Sven Danielsen, Head of Norsk Energi's District Heating Department, and participated in a presentation session on Norsk Energi projects.
The discussion focused on energy efficiency and optimization of district heating systems. The Norwegian experts presented their project experience on waste heat recovery from industrial processes and thermal energy storage, which are highly relevant and applicable to the district heating system in Bucharest.
The visit to Norway gave the ELCEN delegation a clear perspective on the implementation of sustainable solutions in the district heating system. The models of heat storage, heat pumps, electric boilers and waste valorization explored in Oslo and Drammen can be integrated into future projects in Bucharest. This exchange of experience is an important step towards a more efficient and environmentally friendly energy system.
